I'm a fan of the cute, cuddly and bloody show of Happy Tree Friends that was created by MondoMedia.
Several months ago during Halloween, I checked the usual official site for new and special episodes. But I was disappointed that there was a Blurb version of Can't Stop Coffin. Past that day, it was at night and I was on the HTF Wiki, when a certain link to an unofficial site of HTF drew my attention. I clicked that link, then the site appeared. It looked almost like the official site, only it's filled with the HTF stuff that never seemed to be updated. But for the sake of nostalgia, I watched several old HTF episodes along with the TV ones. After watching several episodes, I noticed something that was never shown on both YT and/or the official HTF site: it was an episode. The thumbnail showed a close up of Toothy in cowboy costume, smiling while holding a leash. I have no idea why this is not shown on the HTF site, but shown in the unofficial site. Judging by this, it would seem impossible to have this episode be fan-made. The graphics are pure made by Mondo itself. Feeling curious, I watched that "lost episode".
The Mondo Mini Shows logo pop up appeared first as usual, then the old Merrie Melodies opening from 1936. "Why would they put a Warner Bros. Cartoons opening in an episode?" I asked. The opening looks normal, with "I Think You're Ducky" playing, but then, I looked at the episode's title that appears after the Merrie Melodies logo fades to black, ''Toothin' on A Dog''; seemed like a superior pun for a HTF episode name as usual. I'm going to see what mayhem will be caused within this "episode". The episode started with a shot of Toothy's house at Halloween night as some carved pumpkins were visible. Toothy adjourns from the house, in a cowboy costume, taking Whistle (the puppy shown in ''Doggone It'') for a good nice walk. As usual there'd be happy times at the beginning, then the tables will be turned.
In the first minute of the episode, Toothy is on his way into the town. He stopped when he saw his friend Cuddles with a bag full of candy. Toothy turns delighted and asks in the usual gibberish manner, if he can join him for Trick or Treating. Cuddles agrees before the two run off, leaving Whistle alone. The dog roams free around the town, until Lumpy's whistling caught his attention. This caused Whistle to turn insane, then quickly pounces on Lumpy and tears his body to pieces just like in the usual HTF manner. Giggles, Petunia, and Mime gawk at that incident and then scream in horror (with their squeaky screams of course). Whistle, still in insane state, hears them and quickly attacks Giggles, whom is slower than the others. Giggles' arm gets torn off loosing liters of blood, before becoming unanimated (dead). Whistle attacks Petunia and Mime offscreen.
A new scene commences where we see Whistle had calmed down, as he runs freely around the park. Flippy is shown selling some goodies at the park with Sniffles, Flaky and Russell present, ready to buy some. Russell buys a whistle, which he blows it, causing the faraway Whistle to turn insane once more. This time, Whistle attacked from behind Flippy, decapitating him. This baffled me. Flippy should not supposed to die without involving him flipping out first. I thought the creators just wanted something different. But, like I digress: the three animals quickly seethed, after they saw what Whistle did to Flippy. Whistle rips Flaky's face, she runs off in panic. Whistle then mauls Russell, while Sniffles escaped. However, Whistle quickly appears in front of him as if Whistle was on a bloodthirsty rampage and wanted the massacre over with. Sniffles had no choice but risk getting killed by Whistle.
At this point, Toothy and Cuddles had gathered a lot of candies in their bags. They're just newly out of The Mole's house. However, Mole's boiling water in the pot created a whistling noise, drawing the insane Whistle who looked into his house. Toothy and Cuddles then hears the sounds of mauling. They quickly rush into Mole's house, only to see a bloody mess. The insane Whistle looks at the duo, quickly attacks Cuddles and instantly killing him. Toothy, however, remains untouched, as if the puppy doesn't want to harm his "master". Toothy looks at Cuddles' corpse, now realistic-like. He begins sobbing which then turns into crying. The scene changes into the inside of Toothy's house. Everything's dark. Food is trashed and misplaced items are everywhere. Toothy, sitting on a couch, still feels the horror about his murderer pet. He seems to have lost his stand against his friends getting killed. Now, this is the scene that made me uneasy as in the usual Happy Tree Friends series, there's no such ambient thing as this here. Violence is okay, but I had no idea about this.
Everything's mute as the shot shows Toothy on his couch and in front of him is a television with static. It's like if he doesn't to watch anything. He doesn't even make a peep or do anything else. Just sitting... It was only ten seconds later, the static TV revealed scary faces; hyper realistic that I almost screamed. Toothy still seems mute, though. Later, a close up of his face is shown and all hyper realistic, making me creep out a little. The scene changed, now Toothy holding Whistle's leash. He goes to another room only for a few seconds later, an offscreen cracking and choking noise are heard. The shot now shows the room showing that Toothy had hung himself in a super morbid and almost realistic manner.
Meanwhile, Whistle rests in his doghouse forgetting about what he had committed that night. The closing iris was given, Whistle shows his insane state again, but creepier as both of his eyes are bloody red and no longer the usual "insane" or Pac Man eyes.
Instead of the closing credits, the 1936 Merrie Melodies closing plays. Even though I was still confused about putting a Warner Bros. Cartoons opening and closing in an episode, I still wondered what will the moral might be. However, after the closing is finished, the text fades out, leaving the rings intact, and a hyper realistic, creepy and partially decomposed close up head of Toothy without his eyes, blood smearing all over him, with sharp buckteeth and other facial features are shown. It was almost midnight that I screamed in horror, waking up my parents. I just felt traumatized ever since. I won't watch any foreign episodes that have never came to light on any of the websites listed. Luckily, the episode had been removed after the Mondo crew had noticed it. But it's still unknown to whom actually put up that dreaded episode in the first place.
The episode itself, might have possibly been for 2010's Halloween special. But thought that Mondo Media discovered it as being "too" morbid and didn't seem to fit with the world of HTF, so I can see why they posted the Blurb version of Can't Stop Coffin instead.
Don't bother to disappoint me, if you ever come across this video.
